This text traces the emergence and development of work psychology and organizational behaviour from the early 20th century to the present day. It is not, however, a "history of ideas". Its focus is upon the relations between knowledge, power and practice. The author argues that self-conscious awareness and analysis of these relations and their effects have been significantly lacking in work psychology and organizational behaviour. The key developments in the field are fully documented, but the author's primary interest is to demonstrate how these can and should be understood.
