Probation, Parole, and Community Corrections features a carefully curated collection of readings that explore foundational structures and contemporary issues within the United States correctional system with emphasis on probation, parole, and community-based management. The book is organized into three units. Unit I provides students with historical context regarding U.S prisons, establishing a foundational understanding of how probation, parole, and community corrections have evolved from the penal landscape. It examines the shift from incarceration to alternative measures such as probation and community-based solutions. Unit II contains readings that discuss the application of sociological and criminological theories in the field, risk assessments in community corrections, report writing, and more. Unit III focuses on the future of probation and parole, featuring readings that discuss careers in community corrections and provide students with interviews with practicing probation and parole officers. Probation, Parole, and Community Corrections is ideal for undergraduate studies in criminal justice, criminology, and social work. It well equips students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to navigate and contribute to the community corrections aspect of the criminal justice system.
