Christmas kindness. Advent countdown. Family fun. Jemma can’t wait for Christmas, especially the presents. But there are lots of sleeps to go… With Mum, Dad, and her brother Luke, she counts down the days with carols, baking, cards, paper decorations and giving gifts. Maybe Christmas isn’t just one exciting morning. Maybe it’s a whole season filled with joy, kindness, and wonderful waiting. For every child counting down to Christmas Day.

Rochelle Stephens writes under R. A. Stephens. She is published in both educational and trade markets. Her Riz Chester series included The Fingerprint Code which was shortlisted in the Speech pathology awards (2024). She has completed her Masters in Editing in Publishing with a thesis exploring middle fiction for teens. Rochelle loves writing stories, but has little time with teaching, publishing and family so mostly writes short fiction such as picture books inspired by maths or family. She dreams of the day she finishes a full-length novel without getting distracted!

Born in Samarinda, Indonesia, Novia Heroanto is an Australian children’s book illustrator based in Sydney. With a background in early childhood education and graphic design, she creates heartfelt, character-rich illustrations and stories about family, friendship, and belonging. When not drawing, she coaches at a local women’s gym and, together with her family, enjoys being part of their church community. She also continues to hone her picture book writing skills.

  • Fills a clear gap: a contemporary picture book built around an Advent‑style December countdown.
  • Built-in “calendar” feel: dated pages (1st–25th Dec) make it read like an Advent countdown book. High giftability.
  • High‑demand hook: kids are obsessed with “how many sleeps?” This adorable story centres that exact feeling and solves it with meaningful activities.
  • Advent made practical: turns waiting into doable family moments (songs, cards, decorations, baking, Christmas lights) families can copy.
  • Faith woven naturally: includes the Nativity and Jesus’ birthday in a warm, kid‑understandable way which is not preachy (this book is suitable for both the general market and the Christian book market)
  • Traditions-driven storytelling: each day offers a new festive tradition. Perfect for repeat reads across December.
  • Emotional payoff: the character shift lands. Jemma’s waiting becomes joyful, and the focus moves beyond presents.
  • Community + family warmth: grandparents, cousins, friends. This book captures the full Christmas season experience kids love.
  • Perfect positioning for Christian retail + general buyers: it’s festive and fun, with clear faith touchpoints. Ideal for families wanting “Christmas with meaning.”
