The second book from The Lost Wines Degustation Society: A Postcard from the Pyrenees “is many things. It is a celebration. A celebration of the achievements of those who came before us; their good taste and their appreciation of the finer things that matter. It is a commiseration; a sadness that only a small sample of that which came before remains. A few lost wines, village squares; a few ghost ships and family stories. Some snippets of poetry and glimmers of culture. Only the postcards speak as loudly as ever in all their glory. It is a pride; holding in great stead the vision, commitment and assuredness with which our forebears conducted themselves, their business, their relationships. All our forebears from eastern Europe and the Pacific Islands and everywhere. A Postcard from the Pyrenees is a study of the past; but also of today.” (Michael Ciavarella (Mickey from Domaine de la Motte)
In the great tradition of gaining life experience before embarking on the quest to write fiction. Brien Cole began working for Mildara Wines, Mildura in 1978 as a vineyard hand. Vineyard hand became cellar “rat” for Brown Brothers Wines Milawa 1982 which became Vineyard Manager Stonier Wines Mornington Peninsula 1989 and ultimately Winemaker (and general everything) Kings Creek Winery Mornington Peninsula. He has been making wine on the Mornington Peninsula since 1997. Brien’s first trip to France in 1982 saw him helping out on the vineyards of San Guiraud, Languedoc, France. In 1991 in Castillon, Bordeaux, and in 2010 a vintage in Saint Emilion, Bordeaux France. The “Lost Wine Degustation Society” has much to say about these travels. In his quest to write fiction Brien published his first story in Tabloid Story in 1975. His first collection of short stories “Morning Parrot Trees” in 1979, which was republished in 2018 as “Still Life with Allen Keys. Two novels, “Tiger Wolf” 2019, “Solero” 2020 and a kids book “The Adventures of Top Hat” 2022.
