This book combines three collections of paintings from 200, 2012 and 2024, accompanied by an ephemeral collection of writing about the city and the university.  It is an insiders view, in which the pictures reveal not just Oxfords famous colleges and quadrangles, but its hidden streets, corners and gardens, at all times of day and throughout the seasons.  It is the first illustrated book that is not simply a tourist guide, nor a learned history of the city, but a refreshing viewpoint of a town that is loved by all who study, visit or work there.  It is the perfect gift book for anyone interested in Oxford.

Frances Hamel has lived and worked in Oxfordshire as artist in residence at Rousham for over 25 years He trained at the Ruskin School of Art whilst at Magdalen College, Oxford. This latest collection is a huge range of atmospheric paintings of the city painted throughout the year from the long days of persistent drizzly winter gloom to bright summer sunshine. An exhibition is scheduled for March 2025 in Oxford and then at the John Martin Gallery in London W1.
