The holiday stage is only big enough for one concert queen--not two. The holiday concert is right around the corner, and Starlin--a multimodal communicator and wheelchair user--can't wait to show off her star power. Inspired by the Queen of Jazz, Starlin practices her bells along with Ella Fitzgerald's "Jingle Bells" until she's rocking them from start to finish. But when her friend Livie tries out for the solo too, Starlin worries she'll miss out on her chance to deliver holiday cheer. Can Starlin score the jazzy solo, or will a bit of improv save the day? Starlin: Concert Queen is filled with holiday cheer, perseverance, and friendship. Drawing from family experience with disability, Anitra Rowe Schulte brings a chapter book centering the experience of a young disabled girl as she perseveres when something isn't immediately easy--and learns to adjust expectations to include her friends.
Anitra Rowe Schulte is the author of Dancing with Daddy and Willow and Bunny. She writes stories that explore big emotions and universal experiences that connect people to each other. Anitra teams with the Chicago nonprofit Leading with Literacy to coordinate an annual holiday initiative that delivers new books to children. Anitra lives west of Chicago with her husband, three daughters, and fluffy cat, Pancake. Katie Crumpton is an illustrator local to Columbia, South Carolina. She earned her bachelor's degree in illustration from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, but she's been drawing ever since she could first hold a pencil. Katie finds inspiration in nature, experiences, daydreams, movies, books, and music. She hopes to bring happiness and whimsy to those who see her work, and to help and inspire other creatives as much as she can.
