2024 Legend of Bathurst book: Each year the Bathurst 1000 produces an array of new stories and tales as Australia’s leading Supercars teams and drivers battle it out for Australian motorsport’s Holy Grail. The Legend of Bathurst Series captures these stories from each year in a wonderful hardback book. This is the 2024 edition featuring race winners Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood.
James Crocker is a young Melbourne-based writer who is an expert on motor racing. He has worked on all seven books in The Legend of Bathurst series and in 2024 stepped up to be the main author. Peter Norton is a Canberra based photographer who has been shooting motorsport for more years than he would like to admit. His work has featured in many respected publications including SupercarXtra and Auto Action. Danny Bourke is a respected graphic artist in the motor racing publications scene, who is also extremely talented behind the camera. He is based in Sydney.
Collectors item, Historical record of race, quaility photograph history. One word comes to mind when you think of the 2024 Repco Bathurst 1000 – ‘redemption’. The season had been a tumultuous one for Brodie Kostecki and Erebus Motorsport up until the Bathurst endurance race to say the least. Kostecki and Erebus were on cloud nine when together they wrapped up 2023 Supercars Championship. It all looked like Kostecki and Erebus were set for a stellar season in 2024. Then on the eve of the Championship, the unexpected happened. Kostecki and Erebus split. Exactly what caused the split is still not clear to the public to this day, but Kostecki missed the opening two rounds of the Championship before a peace deal was brokered, but his Championship defense was effectively shot. All Brodie and Erebus could do to salvage something from 2024 was to win the greatest race of all – the Repco Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama. And, joined by co-driver Todd Hazelwood, that’s exactly what they did. The event itself saw huge crowds, but while the lead-up days were action-packed, the 1000 kays of the race was relatively incident free, with the only safety car coming late in the race after young Kiwi Matt Payne fenced his Penrite-backed Mustang. The story told in these pages is as seen by the SupercarXtra team and is another part of The Legend of Bathurst. It is the story of how Brodie Kostecki, Todd Hazelwood and Erebus Motorsport dominated the 2024 Repco Bathurst 1000, claiming redemption for what had been a very ordinary season.
