Emily J. Haas, PhD, has more than a decade of experience leading high-visibility occupational safety and health (OSH) projects. She has held several positions within the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) that focus on risk identification and mitigation in high-hazard industries including mining, construction, and public safety. She has authored more than 100 publications and provided over 150 technical presentations, including workshops and keynotes at international OSH conferences. Having received her doctoral degree in Health Communication from Purdue University's Brian Lamb School of Communication in 2012, she felt a personal connection to a public safety project at Purdue University that focused on motorcycle safety, which further shaped her desire to promote safety and health measures. In 2019, Purdue University honored Haas with an Emerging Voice Award, which recognizes alumni who excel in their careers and are engaged members of society. In her current role, Haas continually mentors and seeks out opportunities for emerging leaders in OSH.
