Internationally renowned photographer Lucian Niemeyer and National Park Service historian Art Gomez have combined talents in this stunning presentation of the Land of Enchantment. Niemeyer's more than 150 color photographs and Gomez's sweeping history encompass the entire state throughout the seasons, presenting the region's people, cultures, and magnificent scenery. New Mexico's mountains, deserts, and rivers form natural corridors that migrating birds and animals have traditionally used for survival. Navigating these same corridors across the state, Paleo, Plains, and Pueblo Indians, Hispanos, and Anglos forged viable communities on the astringent New Mexican landscape.
Lucian Niemeyer is a professional photographer who operates out of Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. He has traveled the world, photographing human and environmental conditions. He is the author and photographer of numerous books, including Africa: The Holocausts of Rwanda and Sudan, Desert Wetlands, and Darfur, all published by the University of New Mexico Press. Art Gomez's publications include Quest for the Golden Circle: The Four Corners and the Metropolitan West, 1945-1970 and the coedited Forests under Fire: A Century of Ecosystem Mismanagement in the Southwest. He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. Bill Richardson is the former governor of New Mexico and a former US ambassador to the United Nations.
