This is a print on demand book and is therefore non- returnable. Recognizing that many North Americans regard natural science and biblical teaching as at odds with each other, the authors (respected scientists who are also committed Christians) examine both the historical roots and the present manifestations of the science-versus- Bible tension, critique several of the misperceptions that encourage an adversarial approach, and offer reliable principles that the evangelical Christian community can use in determining what the Bible and science actually tell us about the physical universe and its formation.
Howard Van Till (1938-2024) was professor emeritus of physics and astronomy at Calvin College (now Calvin University), where he taught for thirty-one years. He was one of the founding members of the International Society for Science and Religion; he also served on the advisory board for the John Templeton Foundation, assisting the foundation in the administration of programs in science and religion. In addition to his teaching, he wrote and spoke frequently on the relationship between science and religion. His publications include The Fourth Day: What the Bible and the Heavens Are Telling Us about the Creation and Portraits of Creation: Biblical and Scientific Perspectives on the World's Formation.
John Suppe --Princeton University "This book makes very significant progress toward disentangling the gargantuan knot surrounding creation, science, and Christianity by providing us with perspective on how and why we got entangled and by offering reliable accounts not only of the contributions of geology, astronomy, and cosmology but also -- most refreshingly -- of what rigorous exegesis indicates the Bible means to say. This work encourages some optimism that indeed the knot can be untangled to the glory and knowledge of God."
